Crocodile Tooth Histology from a Pliocene Deposit in Chinchilla, Queensland

چکیده

Chinchilla in the Western Downs Region of Queensland is home to Rifle Range, a palaeontological site that has produced significant well-preserved Pliocene vertebrate assemblage. Here, we describe and discuss histology crocodile tooth recovered from ca 3.5-million-year-old Sand deposit Range. The posterior jaw likely belongs species Paludirex. We micro-morphology relation what known about extant extinct crocodylians with brevirostine platyrostral skull morphology. hypothesised there should be several similarities micro-structures between related taxa. found fossil characterised by thin enamel prismless but shows incremental striations (also seen dentine), similar other crocodylians. This short study highlights importance microscopic techniques applied material. With further evidence emerging Chinchilla, application three-dimensional microscopy understand nature Paludirex prisms, better understanding reptile palaeobiology can developed for Australia.

Pliocene Paleoenvironments of Southeastern Queensland, Australia Inferred from Stable Isotopes of Marsupial Tooth Enamel

The Chinchilla Local Fauna is a diverse assemblage of both terrestrial and aquatic Pliocene vertebrates from the fluviatile Chinchilla Sand deposits of southeastern Queensland, Australia. It represents one of Australia's few but exceptionally rich Pliocene vertebrate localities, and as such is an important source of paleoecological data concerning Pliocene environmental changes and its effects ...

Early pliocene hominid tooth from Galili, Somali Region, Ethiopia.

A fossil hominid tooth was discovered during survey at Galili, Somali region, Ethiopia. The geological and faunal context indicate an Early Pliocene age. The specimen (GLL 33) consists of an almost complete lower right third molar likely representing a male individual of advanced age-at-death. Its comparative metrical, morphological and (micro)structural analysis (supported by a microtomographi...

Modelling the giant, Zn-Pb-Ag Century deposit, Queensland, Australia

This paper presents a combination of geometric reconstructions of the Century Zn–Pb–Ag deposit, and finite-difference modelling of coupled deformation and fluid flow. Our intention is to demonstrate that these computer-based applications represent a new approach in testing ore genesis models. We use a ‘‘visiometric’’ approach, utilising GoCad 3D structural and property modelling. Computer visua...

Stable isotopes in fossil hominin tooth enamel suggest a fundamental dietary shift in the Pliocene.

Accumulating isotopic evidence from fossil hominin tooth enamel has provided unexpected insights into early hominin dietary ecology. Among the South African australopiths, these data demonstrate significant contributions to the diet of carbon originally fixed by C(4) photosynthesis, consisting of C(4) tropical/savannah grasses and certain sedges, and/or animals eating C(4) foods. Moreover, high...
